Glass partitions create inspiring new laboratory at the University of New England

The University of New England is one of Australia’s most prestigious higher education providers. In collaboration with architects Francis Jones Morehen Thorp and main contractor Cockram Construction we provided a collection of contemporary, inspiring teaching spaces. Our glazed partitions helped build a new laboratory and teaching spaces that maximise visual connectivity whilst achieving impressive acoustic performance throughout the design.

Visual connectivity enhances learning spaces

An open and accessible space was a key design requirement when creating the university’s new multi-functional laboratory. With excellent acoustic performance and stunning aesthetics our Revolution 54 double glazed partitions maximise natural light flowing through the design. As a result, this popular glazed partitioning system creates an open and professional learning environment. Expansive glazed viewing areas run throughout the design providing visual connectivity whilst also offering high levels of acoustic performance. Furthermore, these glazed partitions allow natural light to flow through the teaching spaces, creating an airy, contemporary working environment. The laboratory has been designed with collaboration in mind, encouraging students and staff to come together and share ideas.

Acoustics for a better learning environment

A high level of acoustic performance is key to ensuring a comfortable and effective environment for students to learn in. Therefore, the university placed an important focus on the need for good quality acoustics throughout the project. With this in mind, we installed our popular Revolution 54 double glazed partitions, creating a modern, attractive design that provides a high level of acoustic privacy. Achieving up to Rw46dB, with two layers of 12.8mm acoustic laminated glass, this impressive system also provides the ideal acoustic privacy to enhance learning.

Equally important in offering a high level of acoustic privacy within this project was the installation of our dynamic Affinity single glazed doors. Double and single door sets not only continue the open aesthetic of the design, but they also offer high acoustic performance. The the dynamic door systems provide a stylish solution that complements the contemporary design of the new teaching spaces whilst meeting the practical demands of the classroom. With outstanding acoustic performance, achieving up to Rw39dB, Affinity doors provide the ideal acoustic solution to fit the design. Both single and double door entryways deliver maximum visualization across the fit-out whilst quality sound insulation provides optimum privacy.
