In collaboration with PTW Architects, Optima’s slimline single glazed partitions were incorporated to create functional meeting spaces. Acoustic privacy and maximum aesthetics was a strong requirement so that strategic locations could remain confidential spaces with a minimalistic overall appearance. Single glazed elements were incorporated along with hinged timber and glazed sliding doors to create welcoming environments.
The Downing Centre Court has undergone some much-needed redevelopment. The lower ground level and the popular café have both undergone renovations to improve facilities. The renovations included a new court for hearing multi-accused cases, new hearing rooms, as well as new areas for court officers and jurors. It also now houses new Civil Registry Offices, and the judge’s library will be relocated. The Downing Centre houses both Local and District courts and is the busiest court-complex in NSW. Local courts across NSW hear hundreds of thousands of cases each year, and thousands of them are held in the Downing Centre.
While the interior has undergone renovations, the exterior still retains the original Mark Foys floor tiles and façade.
