When Hewlett Packard Enterprise chose to move its London-based operations to a brand new 70,000 sq ft office in the heart of the City of London, the project team selected Optima to install the glazed partitions.

Location

HLW International Ltd & IA Interior Architects

Contractor
Overbury Plc

The overview of the project was a large brief in itself: to provide a new European HQ for HPE, which split from what is now known as HP Inc. at the tail end of 2015. HPE is an enterprise-focused organisation that works specifically with businesses to help them in using technology to speed up the time that it takes to turn ideas into value.

This high profile project was delivered to an aggressive, fast-tracked timetable, with a goal to achieve a Platinum LEED certification for sustainability.

The big idea was to create a 100% flexible work place with a variety of task settings in order to support a mobile workforce of over 700 people, with client-facing meeting, dining and presentation spaces.

Showcasing the latest HPE technology, this is the first UK-based HPE Customer Engagement Centre. Taking its cue from similar facilities in New York and Palo Alto, California, the London HQ raises the bar for customer experience.

Optima was engaged to provide upfront design; taking the architect’s concept, developing details and providing scaled down mock-ups.

There were some challenging aspects to face along the way, such as procuring obscured glass from Italy and working to a tight logistics and programme schedule.

In the HPE Customer Engagement Centre, designed by HLW International, textured glass within the Revolution 100 system was used to stunning effect, beautifully complimented by timber doors.

Optima’s Revolution 100 system, with single glazed Edge Symmetry doors, was used to create meeting rooms across the office floors, along with Optima’s Kinetic Align framed sliding glass doors and single glazed screens.

Revolution 100 is a completely new partition system that makes no compromise in terms of design and performance. Versatile and flexible, it is a fully dry jointed system that can be single or double glazed.

A range of glazing options enables clients to select an acoustic performance that is appropriate to their needs. Thanks to clever engineering and innovative design, the system can achieve a market-leading acoustic performance of Rw52dB in its double glazed form.

Brian Szpakowski, Director at Interior Architects, oversaw the design of the entire scheme. Reflecting upon the project he said Optima was: “always responsive to the client’s needs and a safe pair of hands.” He continues, “We have complete confidence in Optima to deliver a quality installation and everyone who visits the HPE HQ compliments the quality and appearance of the glazed partitions.”

Main Contractor Overbury received some great feedback directly from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, with Project Manager Alan Sandell reporting: “the client is extremely happy on both sides of the water, with HPE across the pond believing that it’s amazing that such a fast-track project can be completed on time, to a very high standard.”

For the Optima team, this was a hugely rewarding and at times challenging project, that ultimately led to outstanding results.
